About the tour
Fjallhalla will take you on a true glacial expedition. For 6 exciting hours, we will explore the far reaches of Sólheimajökull Glacier. This is one of the fastest retreating glaciers in the world. Now is the best time and your best chance to experience it while hiking with local experts. This tour is aimed at those who are experienced hikers and are looking for something more challenging and don’t mind some strenuous physical activity.
Meet us at the location where we will provide you with specialised glacier equipment, teach you how to use it and then begin our hike through the glacial valley towards the snout of Sólheimajökull. The hike through the valley will take about 20 minutes with the total time on the glacier itself ranging between 4-5 hours.
While on the glacier expect to see spectacular cracks in the ice called crevasses and bottomless abysses called moulins. We may even have the potential to see an ice cave if Mother Nature has blessed us with the right conditions! We will make a lunch break high up on the glacier to refuel and try some traditional Icelandic snacks.
