About the tour

When the Hvalfjarðargöng tunnel leading from the south to the north of Iceland was opened in 1998, Hvalfjörður became a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.

We offer a hike to one of these places in Hvalfjörður, to one of the highest waterfalls in Iceland, Glymur, 198 m. It´s a fact that many Icelanders love outdoor activities. Hiking is one of them which should not come as a surprise since Iceland is a land of mountains and ridges that provide endless hiking opportunities. It’s not visible from the road so yes, you have to put your boots on and get into your exercise mode.  The waterfall drops into a mossy green extremely majestic canyon so this hike is worth very minute and is not that difficult even though you need to face some challenges on your way up. Hiking up to Glymur waterfall is one of the most enjoyable and exciting hikes I have ever made because the whole area and vista is truly majestic and exceptionally beautiful. Each step you take you to get more and more eager to view the big beauty and once at the top, and on your way up, you get to see some epic sceneries and views. The hike itself is truly adventurous leading you through dirt roads, into a cave, tasking your balance when facing a pole over the river, steep muddy and rocky areas. Last but not least, when at the top, you will have to cross the river just a few meters from the drop of the waterfall. You really get some adrenaline rush up there. Then its time for a well-deserved break eating the lunch you brought, and who knows, maybe the guide has some local tasting in mind for you. After the break, we head down to our bus again, nice and slow. You will be surprised how much faster you are going down than up.

After the hike, we at Fjallhalla transport you to hotel Laxárbakki where a hot tub and a three-course dinner awaits you! It is cooked by a master chef and is highly recommended by the staff of Fjallhalla.
