About the tour
When driving to the north of Iceland you see a lot of beautiful glacier-shaped mountains along the way. We offer a hike to one of those peaks, Skarðshyrna. The hike takes you through a valley, ending at the peak of Skarðshyrna with the view on the picture seen above.
We begin our hike roughly at 100m above sea level and then progress upwards to the summit of Skarðahyrna at 923 m. The total distance covered is about 11 km.
After the hike, we at Fjallhalla transport you to hotel Laxárbakki where a hot tub and a three-course dinner awaits you! It is cooked by a master chef and is highly recommended by the staff of Fjallhalla.
What do we mean by snacks?
When hiking, especially in cold conditions, your energy needs double: Men: 5000 kcal / Women 4000 kcal
Eat at every break! As for energy bars – Snickers are the best! They are cheaper and usually taste better than proper energy bars. The caramel and chocolate give immediate energy while the nuts provide a good source of long-lasting energy.
Dark chocolate is another great option for an immediate energy boost. Don’t forget that chocolate also releases endorphins in your body which is a great mood booster too!
Daily at 9:00 in the morning
923 m elevation and 11 km distance
What to bring?
Hiking boots and clothes (no cotton), waterproof gear in case of weather changes, snack and water. If you need any equipment for the hike, please let us know and we can provide it to you free of charge.
