About the tour
We start the evening at the Blue Sea restaurant. It is located just across the Óseyrar bridge from Eyrarbakki, about 40 minutes away from Reykjavík. From here, you get a spectacular panoramic view over the seam the mountains and the Óseyrar estuary. Our menu focuses on fresh seafood direct from the fisherman, homemade cakes and fresh local ingredients.
The standard tour takes approximately 6 hours and this is an evening version which is combined with a Northern light hunt and dinner along the south coast. Navigate through the wonderous lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir, one of the longest and best-known lava tubes in Iceland. Just a short 30-minute drive from Reykjavík, this natural wonder is easily accessible all year round. A footbridge and several paths have been built over the roughest terrain making the Standard Tour accessible for most people. Award-Winning lighting highlights the changing colours manifesting the powerful volcanic activity that formed the tunnel. The Lava Tunnel is located at one of the best Northern lights sightseeing sport around Reykjavik and is, therefore, an ideal combination with your evening program outside Reykjavik. Seeing the Northern lights is never a guarantee but our caving adventure is guaranteed fun!
The evening then takes us to a northern lights hunt, which might just be above us when we exit the tunnel! If not, we take a look at the forecast and head in the direction where we find minimum cloud cover!
Your driver-guide is also a photographer, which will teach you how to use your phone or camera to capture the spectacular lights! It is one of the first things we do when looking for the aurora, take a photo in the direction where something seems to be appearing. The camera captures more than the human eye, so it is very smart to bring a camera to see where and if the show is about to start.
